This is my car (and my friend Peter), my second Jeep Cherokee. This is still the only vehicle that I’d ever want, but they don’t make them anymore, so I’ll be riding this one out as long as possible.

This’ll be the last of the stuff from Water Island. I can’t bring myself to keep putting them up here and reminding me of how much fun it was. I have a few that I’ll save for when I get desperate for something to post, but I’ve been shooting enough lately to hopefully mitigate that need. The whole collection of shots is up here in an album.

Island Bunker

In 1944, when the US acquired Water Island for $10,000, they began building a defense installation called Fort Segarra. Plans included barracks, gun emplacements, watchtowers and underground bunkers. It was not finished before World War II ended, but was used for years after as testing grounds for poisonous gases.
