This weeks photos are from a series I did way, way back (the first actual project I ever shot), during a KKK protest/rally in Ann Arbor, MI. The KKK was allowed, for a number of years, to hold a rally downtown in one of the more liberal liberal towns in America (ever hear of [Hash Bash](http://www.hashbash.com/)?). This rally is invariably protested by local progressives who tend to become a bigger problem than the KKK themselves, who stay behind literal police protection and figurative first-amendment protection. The police, protecting the Klan members from assault by protesters, are pitted against groups they may sympathize with, while the Klan slips peacefully out of view, giving them their ultimate satisfaction; [articles in newspapers](http://www.pub.umich.edu/daily/1998/may/05-11-98/news/news1.html) and the public perception about the out-of-hand liberal protesters.
Here are the five:

Also, I have many new rolls to be scanned, but I’m waiting until I receive my new scanner (more on that later), and will be gone next week for the holidays, so for this week, Treemeat is going to be all about the wayback.
