Filters

I’ve been meaning to do something with this ratty filter guide that came with some filters I bought a long time ago.

The filters are long gone, but I’ve hung onto this guide since, passing it from camera bag to camera bag. It’s damn near illegible now, so I figured it was time to get it into electronic format, the way the kids like it these days.

Filters for color films

Type Color f-Stop+ Effects
1A Skylight n/a Effectively absorbs ultra-violet rays and some blue rays and prevents your “picture” from looking excessibely bluish. Since this filter will also protect your camera lens, we recommend that it be kept on the lens at all times.
1B Skylight n/a
85A Type A Coral 1 Compensates Type A film (3400°K) to daylight use. Without the filter the picture will come out excessibely bluish.
85B Type B Coral 1 Converts Type B film (3200°K) to daylight use. Without the filter the picture will be extremely bluish.
80A Dark Blue 2 1/3 Compensates daylight type film for shooting under 3200°K flood and spot light or ordinary household lamps. Without the filter, the picture will be too reddish.
80B Flood Medium Blue 2 Converts daylight type film for photographing under 3400°K lamps such as photoglood lamps. Without the filter, the picture will come out too reddish.
81A Yellowish Light Coral 1/3 Compensates Type B film for the use with 3400°K photoflood or similar lamps. Also works as a warming effect filter useful on an overcast day, or for shooting with electronic flash.
81B Light Coral 1/3 Compensates Type A or Type B film for the use with clear type flash bulbs. Also works as a warming effect filter useful for taking pictures in the shade or open shade on sunny days. Improves color rendition on backlight subjects in sunshine.
82A Light Blue 1/3 For compensation of Type A film under light with a color temperature of 3200°K such as normal household lamps. Also used for compensating the color temperature under the reddish light conditions in the early morning or late afternoon.

Filters for black & white films

Type Color f-Stop+ Effects
UV Pale Yellow 1.0 Absorbs ultra-violet rays and blue rays effectively without increase of exposure. Recommended for snapshots, color scenery and telephotography. Will also be used as lens protections.
Y2 Medium Yellow 1 Absorbs ultra-violet and blue-violet rays for strong contrast, especially in scenic photographs.
YA2 Medium Orange 3 Absorbs violet, blue and green rays for stronger contrast. Used mainly for photographs of distant scenes or clouds.
R2 Medium Red 5 Absorbs violet, blue, green and yellow rays for strongest contrast. Useful for infra-red photography.
P00 Yellow Green 1 This filter is recommended in pachromatic type film outdoor shots to produce pictures that are similar to what is actually seen by the naked eye.
P01 Green 3 Absorbs ultra-violet, violet, some blue and dark red rays to make green brighter and red darker. Great for skin tone delineation and green leaves photographs. Used with usual panchromatic type B&W film.

Neutral Density Filters for Color & B&W Films

Type Color f-Stop+ Effects
ND2 Light Gray 1 Neutral Density (ND) filters are used for reducing amount of light without changing color rendition. ND2 transmits 50% of the light, ND4 25%, and ND8 12.5%.
ND4 Medium Gray 3
ND8 Dark Gray 5

Special Effects Filters

Type f-Stop+ Effects
Polarizing (Linear Type) 2 The polarizing filter changes natural light into a polarized condition or regulates the intensity of incomping polarized light through rotation of the filter axis. Since reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass, etc., or light from blue skies are conditions of polarized light, the use of a polarizing filter will serve to regulate such reflections properly.
Circular PL 1 It is similar to the ordinary polarizing filter, except rays go circular, not linear, after passing through the circular polarizing filter. It elimates possible exposure errors which may be caused by the slight polarization of rays in cameras of the TTL system using fixed mirrors.
CC F-TB 1 1/3 These filters are designed to be used in conjunction with Tungsten (Type B) and Daylight type color films respectively. Each type reduces the greenish cast common to fluorescent lighting and produces pleasing, natural results, particularly in fleshtones.
CC F-DL 1
